During May 2006, Mr. Downing joined MedAvante and is primarily responsible for all financial and fiscal management aspects of company operations. This includes providing leadership, coordination, and execution of business planning, accounting and budgeting efforts of the company. Additionally, in his role as the Vice President of Finance, brings clarity and transparency to the processes that create customer value and will provide the organization with the measures and tools to design and redesign processes to bring ever greater customer value, such as performance, speed, cost, risk, and reliability.

Mr. Downing has more than fifteen years of finance and business experience. Most recently, Steve held the position of Executive Director of Finance, Client Support Center of Excellence for Covance, Inc. In 2005, he led the finance reorganization planning process and its implementation. He was the Business Partner for both the General Managers of North America and Europe/Asia Pacific and supported the following areas: P&L responsibility, strategy, capital investment, expansion, and financial training. Additionally, he was the lead in the creation of a Project Analysis Group which was responsible for the overall financial well being of a project, including project profitability, revenue recognition, cash flow, invoicing and financial training for Project Managers and their teams.

Mr. Downing's previous role at Covance was Global Controller, for the Clinical Development Services Business. In this role, he was responsible for the Division's Global Finance Group which included approximately 40 individuals across various locations within North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region. He was instrumental in the globalization of the finance function including standardization of reporting and analysis tools, policies and procedures, budgeting, forecasting, and cash collections. He also had global oversight of the annual external and internal audit process, as well as required statutory and tax audits and Sarbanes Oxley compliance.

Mr. Downing started his career at Covance in 1996 as a Senior Financial Analyst for the Corporate office. In that role, he was responsible for the consolidation and monthly reporting for over one dozen business units worldwide, as well as the global business analysis for Senior Management. He was promoted to Corporate Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis, and was responsible for the planning and execution of the company-wide budgeting and forecasting process. He assisted with the global implementation of a new financial system, acting as the lead for the Corporate office roll-out. Upon graduation, Steve worked as an auditor with KPMG Peat Marwick LLP for four years.

He has a BS Degree in Accounting and Finance from Trenton State College. Additionally, he is a Certified Public Accountant.
