The MedAvante Research Institute

The main goals of the Institute are:
  • To provide scientific support for the theoretical underpinnings behind centralized ratings and rater training
  • To provide empirical data on the efficacy of centralized ratings and rater training

Current projects include:

  • A comparison of centralized raters vs. site raters in terms of signal detection in a multi-center trial.
  • Comparisons of face-to-face vs. remote assessment (via videoconference and telephone) of several symptom rating scales, including the MADRS, PANSS and CDRS.
  • Evaluation of the use of same vs. different raters in clinical trials.
  • Development and validation of several structured clinical interview guides.
  • Investigations of novel methods of rater training, including an NIMH grant to evaluate remote training and calibration on the PANSS using Internet and videoconferencing.
  • A collaboration with the Arthur P. Noyes Research Foundation at Norristown State Hospital and The PANSS Institute to carry out this and other projects.

The MedAvante Research Institute is headed by our VP of Research, Dr. Kenneth A. Kobak. Findings from the MedAvante Research Institute are presented at major international conferences and published in top peer-reviewed journals.
