Clinical Interviewer

Job Summary
This position will evaluate a wide range of psychiatric patients using various diagnostic and symptom rating scales. Successful incumbent is part of an expert rating team, conducting assessments as part of a study protocol and at the request of a sponsor via videoconference or telephone.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate a patient's current clinical condition and symptom severity.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations.
- Submit accurate data utilizing Good Clinical Practices and identified scoring conventions.
- Manage subject crises with professionalism and clinical expertise.
- Utilize technology required to conduct remote assessments.
- Work with MedAvante Project Associates in initiating assessments, and assist them with data query completion and data clarification.
- Follow Sponsor (protocol-specific) requirements and applicable MedAvante internal SOPs.
- Participate in weekly rater meetings.
- Participate in on-going rater calibration and training.
Education / Qualifications:
Raters must have a minimum of a master's degree conferred by a clinically-focused program in a mental health discipline such as Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or Psychiatric Nursing.
Experience / Skills
- Candidates must have 2 years of clinical experience with psychiatric patients.
- 1 year administering psychiatric symptom rating scales and/or structured diagnostic interviews. The specific assessment skills required will vary according to project needs.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Must be willing to travel as required.
- Knowledge of GCP guidelines.
- Strong communication skills, oral and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively within the company.

Therapeutic Area Manager, Cognitive Impairment
Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of the training and calibration of the MedAvante Clinical Interviewers as well as monitoring the clinical quality of the assessments as specified by the Vice President of Clinical Development. This individual will have extensive experience in evaluating a wide range of psychiatric patients with Cognitive Impairments using various diagnostic and symptom rating scales. This role will have responsibility for assisting with all activities relating to the Therapeutic Area of Cognitive Impairment.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Project Management and Clinical Operations to obtain resources and identify training needs for new studies.
- Identify and coordinate ancillary resources such as Key Opinion Leaders, continuing education programs, training materials, etc.
- Create training materials for specific rating scales.
- Create training and calibration plans that are clinically effective and operationally feasible and appropriate.
- Conduct individual and group applied training sessions.
- Conduct group didactic overview sessions on rating scale conventions.
- Supervise training and calibration activities in coordination with the clinical manager to ensure they are meeting the clinical requirements and the project timelines.
- Supervise trainers, gold standard interviewers etc as they train and calibrate raters according to the Training and Calibration plans, QC plans etc.
- Monitor "rater drift" through on-going individual observation and evaluation of raters, bi-monthly group rating sessions, and semi-annual individual re-calibration with raters.
- Create and administer training modules for orientation of new staff as well as re-education of existing staff.
- Ensure raters are administering assessments in accordance with GCP and safety reporting guidelines (e.g. potential clinical events, risk assessments etc).
- Assist in the ongoing review of the assessment data, QC data (e.g. observed) and other data source as identified.
- Address inquiries from investigative sites regarding rater performance.
- Assess each rater’s clinical skills and create development plans and goals in conjunction with their Clinical Manager.
- Create the framework (i.e. plan, materials etc) for "external" rater training projects for pharmaceutical clinical trials.
- Coordinate the recruitment and monitoring of community subjects and actors for training purposes.
- Conduct assessments as necessary.
- Review relevant scientific publications applicable to Therapeutic Area.
- May participate in Business Development activities, including sponsor visits, bid defenses, etc.
- Interface with other departments.
Experience / Skills
- Good diagnostic, assessment and clinical skills with a minimum of 5 years experience in scale administration.
- Ability to work collaboratively within the company.
- Demonstrate leadership skills and ability to manage, motivate, and integrate a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and problem solving/decision making skills.

- Academic background in clinical research assessment and research methodology.
- Experience in developing rater educational materials.
Education / Qualifications
- Graduate level degree in psychology, social work, counseling, psychiatric nursing or related field.
- Minimum 3 years experience as a rater trainer.
- Minimum 5 years experience administering psychiatric symptom rating scales and/or structured diagnostic interviews.
- Minimum 5 years experience in a clinical trials or research setting.
- Minimum 5 years of extensive clinical experience with a diversity of psychiatric patients.
- Minimum 5 years of extensive clinical experience with patients with Cognitive Impairment.
